नाग लोक में सारी स्वागत क्रियाएं संपन्न होने के बाद राजा बासिक राजकुमारी निहालदे के सामने एक भिक्षुक की भाति धरती पर बैठ गए और हाथ जोड़कर कहने लगे, पुत्री अनजाने में हमसे बड़ी गलती हुई है, जिसकी हमें बहुत भयंकर सजा मिल रही है। कृपा अब हमारी गलतियों को क्षमा कर दो पुत्री और हमें इस रोग से निजात दिलाने में हमारी सहायता करो। अब हमसे यह असहनीय पीड़ा बर्दाश नहीं होती।
पिता कितना भी क्रूर व बर्बर क्यों ना हो किंतु राजकुमारी निहालदे एक साफ और निर्मल हृदय की स्त्री थी। अपने पिता को इस हाल में देखकर उसके आंसू बहने लगे। उससे अपने पिता का गलता हुआ शरीर और उससे उत्पन्न होने वाली असहनीय पीड़ा देखी ना गई तो उसने अपने पिता को इस रोग से निजात दिलाने के लिए हर कठिन से कठिन कार्य को करने की ठानी।
निहालदे – पिताजी आप निशंकोच होकर बोलिए, मैं आपको इस पीड़ा से निजात दिलाने के लिए विकट से विकट परिस्थितियों से टकरा सकती हूं।
राजा अपनी पुत्री के मुख से ऐसे शब्द सुनकर काफी प्रसंन्न थे। वे इस बात से खुश थे कि आज भी उनकी पुत्री उनसे किसी बात का बैर – भाव नहीं रखती जबकि राजा ने तो बचपन में ही अपनी पुत्री की जीवन लीला समाप्त करने का प्रयत्न किया था।
राजा बासिक – तो सुनो पुत्री, यदि आप हमें इस पीड़ा से निजात दिलाना चाहती हैं तो आपको पृथ्वीलोक जाना होगा जहां एक झालरा नामक कुआ है, वहां से एक पानी की मटकी लाकर हमें नहला दो तो हमारी सारी पीड़ा समाप्त हो जाएगी। किंतु पुत्री यह कार्य आपको बहुत ही समझदारी और चालाकी से करना होगा क्योंकि पृथ्वी लोक पर ऐसे कई मानव है जो हमारे दुश्मन बने बठे हैं
और अपनी दुश्मनी निकालने के लिए वे किसी भी हद तक जा सकते हैं इसीलिए इस बात का विशेष ध्यान रखना कि किसी भी मनुष्य के संपर्क में मत आना और यदि आपसे कोई जबरदस्ती करने कि कोशिश करें तो यह मत भूलना कि आप एक नागकन्या है, उसे डस कर उसकी जीवन लीला वहीं समाप्त कर देना।
निहालदे – आखिर क्यों पिताजी, मनुष्य हम से दुश्मनी का बैर क्यों रखते हैं ?
राजा बासिक – पुत्री बात उस वक्त की है जब आपने जन्म भी नहीं लिया था। एक बार हम पृथ्वी लोक पर शिकार खेलने गए थे………. और फिर राजा बासिक ने वह पूरी कहानी निहालदे को सुना दी जो मुलाकात राजा पारिक से हुई थी और पूरी कहानी सुनाने के बाद बोले, पुत्री अब राजा पारिक व पृथ्वीलोक के वासी सभी हमारे दुश्मन बने बैठे हैं इसलिए हम बार-बार आपसे कह रहे हैं कि मनुष्य के संपर्क में बिल्कुल भी मत आना क्योंकि वे जिद्द करके बैठे हैं कि हमने तो परीक्षित की सगाई निहालदे से कर दी और अब वही राजकुमारी ब्याह कर लाएंगे किंतु हम आपको मनुष्य से ब्याहना नहीं चाहते।
निहालदे – ठीक है पिताजी, कल सुबह होते ही मैं पृथ्वीलोक के लिए अपनी यात्रा प्रारंभ कर दूंगी।
राजा बासिक ने चैन की सांस लेते हुए अपनी पुत्री निहालदे को सीने से लगा लिया। अगली सुबह निहालदे ने मटका उठा और अपने माता-पिता से आज्ञा लेकर पृथ्वीलोक की और अपनी यात्रा प्रारंभ कर दी।
अब जैसे ही निहालदे पृथ्वीलोक के झालरा कुएं पर पहुंची तो क्या देखती हैं की एक बहुत ही सुंदर राजकुमार कुएं की मुंडेर पर बैठा हुआ किसी के आने की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है किंतु वह राजकुमारी के तरफ इतनी जिज्ञासा भरी नजरों से देख रहा था कि राजकुमारी को अपने पिता की कहानी याद आने लगी, इंसानों से दुश्मनी की कहानी और वह सोचने पर मजबूर हो गई कि कहीं यह वही राजकुमार तो नहीं जिसकी सगाई हमसे तब कर दी गई थी जब हमने जन्म भी नहीं लिया था किंतु जो भी हो राजकुमार परीक्षित को देखकर राजकुमारी निहालदे का चेहरा खिल उठा था। राजकुमार परीक्षित पहली ही नजरों में निहादेह के मन में समा गया था।
कुछ ऐसा ही हाल राजकुमार परीक्षित का भी था, वे पहली नजरों में ही निहालदे पर फिदा हो गए और निहालदे से गहरा प्रेम करने लगे और सोचने लगे हो ना हो यही मेरी निहालदे है, यही मेरी महलों की महारानी है, यही मेरी जीवन संगिनी है। दोनों के मिलन से पृथ्वी लोग का मौसम सुहाना होने लगा था, शाम का समय था तो चारों तरफ लालिमा छाई हुई थी और दोनों एक दूसरे को लगातार निहारे जा रहे थे।
अचानक निहालदे ने अपनी रस्सी मटकी से बांधी और कुएं से पानी निकालने लगी और पानी भर मटकी उठाकर चलने लगी तो परीक्षित ने हाथ पकड़ लिया और बोले, ‘यदि हम गलत नहीं तो आप ही हैं नाग लोग के राजा बासिक की पुत्री “निहालदे”।’
निहालदे – देखिए राजकुमार, हम जानते है आप हमसे क्या कहना चाहते हैं किंतु शायद आपको पता नहीं कि हमारे पिताजी की तबीयत बहुत खराब है इसीलिए हमें पानी लेकर तुरंत नागलोक पहुंचना होगा।
परीक्षित – राजकुमारी हम आपको जाने से नहीं रोकेंगे किंतु जाने से पहले आपको हमारे सवालों का जवाब देना होगा।
निहालदे – बोलिए राजकुमार आप क्या पूछना चाहते हैं ?
परीक्षित – आखिर आपके पिता ने हमारे पिता से वादाखिलाफी क्यों की, आख़िर उन्होंने ऐसे वादे क्यों किए जो उन्हें तोड़ने ही थे ? राजा बासिक को ऐसा क्यों लगता है कि पृथ्वी लोक पर अपनी पुत्री ब्याहने से उनका मस्तिष्क नीचे झुकेगा ? हम नहीं जानते आपके पिताजी ने हमारे साथ वादाखिलाफी क्यों की किंतु हम अपनी बात पर अड़िग है और हम पृथ्वीलोक के लोगों को यह कहने का मौका कभी नहीं देंगे कि राजा पारिक व राजकुमार परीक्षित नाग लोक से डर गए इसीलिए राजकुमारी निहालदे को ब्याह ना सके इसीलिए राजकुमारी कृपा हमारे साथ चलने का निर्णय ले। हम आपको पलको पर बैठा कर रखेंगे।
राजकुमार परीक्षित की बातें सुनकर राजकुमारी निहालदे को अपनी बचपन की कहानी याद आने लगी थी उसकी आंखों से आंसू बहने लगे और बोली, ‘राजकुमार हम मजबूर हैं, हम कर भी क्या सकते हैं। आप तो जानते हैं चाहे नागलोक हो या पृथ्वी लोक हमें फैसले लेने का कोई अधिकार नहीं क्योंकि हम एक कन्या है और हमारी तो जान भी बड़ी मुश्किल से बची थी नहीं तो हम कब के मर चुके होते अगर हमारी मां को हम पर दया नहीं ना आई होती।’
परीक्षित – राजकुमारी इसीलिए तो हम कह रहे हैं, आप हमारे साथ चलिए हम आपको वे सभी अधिकार देंगे जो नाग लोक ने आपसे छीने है।
निकालदे – किंतु राजकुमार अभी मुझे नाग लोक जाना ही होगा क्योंकि मैं अपने पिता से वादा करके आई हूं कि चाहे कुछ भी हो जाए मैं उन्हें इस पीड़ा से निजात दिलाकर ही रहुंगी। अब मैं भी अपने पिता की तरह उनसे वादाखिलाफी नहीं करना चाहती जो उन्होंने आपके साथ की है, किंतु मैं आपसे वादा करती हूं अपने पिताजी को रोग से निजात दिलाकर मैं आपके पास वापिस जरूर लौटूंगी।
परीक्षित – किंतु राजकुमारी क्या आपको लगता है कि राजा बासिक और नाग लोक के वासी इतनी आसानी से आपको हमारे पास आने देंगे ?
निहालदे – राजकुमार मैं आपसे वादा करती हूं कि मैं वापस जरूर लौटूंगी चाहे मुझे कुछ भी करना पड़े। वह सब आप मुझ पर छोड़ दीजिए।
फिर सारी वार्ता के बाद दोनों ने आंसू भरी आंखों से एक दूसरे को विदा किया और चलते हुए निहालदे बोली, राजकुमार मेरा इंतजार करना, मैं वापिस यहीं लौटूंगी और निहालदे पानी की मटकी लेकर चली गई…………….
